Toolboxes: now and then

Toolboxes: now and then
txinkman1.jpg

Flickr toolbox refurbisher extraordinaire “txinkman” got ahold of this awesome Black & Decker box and had no idea what it originally held. He posted a query on Toolmonger and soon found out: a valve seat grinding set. About the box itself, he writes:

Just for giggles, I shot it next to my orbital sander’s box. Somehow I think we’ve lost some packaging elan over the years.

Boy, howdy.

That’s because tools aren’t really meant to last these days. Those plastic tool boxes annoy me. They are usually not very good and the don’t hold everything you need. And they are all different sizes and shapes so you can’t stack them. I generally buy small stackable plastic boxes, put the tools and associated bits in them and throw out the one that came with the tool. Then I can stack them on my shelves in the garage.

I suppose what I should be doing is using the tools to make nice wooden stackable tool boxes :)

Not to mention, how in the world do you fix the latch on that injection molded box when the flimsy plastic splits?
