Microsoft is running another contest for 2010 centered on embedded systems and their embeddedSPARK platform, the Windows embedded software for hobbyists. The grand prize this year is a $15,000. The theme is “Fun & Games.” See the embeddedSPARK website for all of the contest details.

Whoa! Watch out Microsoft, you had better change that name before SPARC international sues you. “SPARC” and “SPARK” are both in all capital letters, that’s clearly a violation of their copyright, Just ask the boys at Sparkfun.

  2. Ric says:

So back in October our friends over at SFE received a cease and desist from K&L Gates of Palo Alto, California because apparently SparkFun infringes on SPARC International Inc.’s trademark rights.

Here’s what’s funny: SPARC International actually has a specification for embedded systems. In other words embeddedSPARK, by our friends at Microsoft, comes much closer to infringing on SPARC’s trademarks and products since there is actually such a thing as embedded SPARC.

Now, I haven’t gone through the entire embeddedSPARK site to see whether or not SPARC is involved but iff they aren’t I say we, being the helpful bunch that we are, inform the good folks at SPARC (sparcinfo@sparc.org) & K&L Gates ( patsy.pressley@klgates.com) of this possible infringement of SPARC’s trademark rights.

I mean, after all isn’t that what it’s all about? You know, helping the big guy bully the little… wait, who’s sponsoring embeddedSPARK again?
