This wireless temperature sensor project uses an XBee, breakout board, and simple power supply to transmit temperature data to an Arduino base station. This looks like it could be easily expanded into a whole house monitoring system. [via Arduino.cc]

I decided to explore the more advanced features of XBee radios by building a remote temperature sensor. You can get quite a bit of control over an XBee radio without a microcontroller at all. You can configure the radio to send sensor readings at particular intervals when it detects changes on certain input pins.

    Someone talk to you about XBee based whole house monitoring lately? ;)

    It looks as if the three input pins on the XBee would be used pretty quickly however… I am going to use an arduino for the sending unit.

    Good looking XBee shield on the arduino board shown above- Where do I source one of those?

    Well, now that I actually have started to read the XBee data sheet…

    There’s a lot more there than I first thought! 7 analog in/ digital I/O pins, two more digital I/O pins..

    You can find the exact same demo pre-packaged and loaded on the Texas Instruments eZ430-RF2500 development tool available for $50. A very cool tool with a lot more built in ease of use and potential than the more expensive XBee device. Also, it is very low power consumption, so the batteries should last a lot longer.

    I now have two x-bee’s talking on the desk, one attached to the arduino. Working the bugs out.

    and i have question,,,can i use the xbee transmitter with ardiuno to get the temperature from more than 10 different points on the surface which is rotating at speed of 500-600 rpm. and i have plan to take the reading of this 10 points in a wireless mode.. is it possible to do with this,,
