Kindle for Mac – can’t search your books

Pt 2714
Kindle for Mac beta is out today, I am trying to like my Kindle while an iPad is looming… but the Kindle for Mac app does not allow searching.

  1. As well-designed as the Kindle (and the iPad) are, under the covers they are the very antithesis of the maker spirit. They are closed platforms that only support proprietary formats, intended to give their manufacturers complete control over what you use them for. Last year Amazon went so far as to delete certain eBooks that had been purchased off of all Kindles[1]. Apple has done the same with iPhone applications, and will no doubt do the same with the iPad.

Both products violate almost every stanza of the Maker’s Manifesto[2].

  2. just adding my 2¢ to the thread.
I too was let down by the new Mac app released by Amazon the other day. It really is a bare bones reader and that’s about it. No search, no notes, no highlights, no dictionary, basically: download/buy ebook, read, turn page. Kinda surprised that we had to wait this long for such a basic reader.
I expect more from you Amazon.
(note: I still like my kindle very much).
