Attendees at this year’s Coachella Music and Arts Festival in California were greeted by Ascension, a gigantic crane that also served as a shelter from the sun. Created by the Crimson Collective, the crane is 45 feet tall and packs a 150-foot wingspan. [Via Fast Company]

I sat under this piece for hours. It was the only solar powered art piece at Coachella and my husband Brent Heyning and his team @TSSystems – Kim Williams and Jason Willis – installed the LED programmable lighting for this piece. There were 7 programs included for Coachella and Stagecoach shows including full colorshifting beauty along with a cool all white look to accompany various acts on stage. Crimson Collective has been great to work with and this piece will be removed from Indio tomorrow.
