T-minus 1 day and counting! Tomorrow the Maker Faire Bay Area programming begins with Education Day where hundreds and hundreds of school children will get a curated preview of the faire. To take advantage of the calm before the storm, I rolled in yesterday with all my gear, and had the place to myself while I set up shop in Expo Hall. CRAFT has a giant space with a lounge and a full schedule of talented artists and crafters. I put together some great projects for my demos Saturday and Sunday for Xyron, including the t-shirt appliques in the shot above. But it wasn’t all fuzzy fiber arts and quiet contemplation. Complete juxtaposition is characteristic of the Maker Faire, so while I assembled my lace projects, Orion Fredricks assembled Fata Morgana, a massive kinetic light sculpture with a 1000 watt HPS lamp and orbiting shining spheres. I wonder if he would let me glue some lace to it?
