Cardboard Mechanics is an installation by Saskia Freeke, Fin Kingma, Davy Jacobs, and Sonja van Vuure, who are studying at the Utrecht School of Art and Technology. There don’t seem to be any details available about the installation, however there are some prototype videos that show it evolved during the course of it’s construction. [via neatorama]

  1. This has been annoying me for a while now. Every time I see someone mention cardboard when in reality it’s corrugated board. Card board is basically very thick heavy paper and corrugated board is made up of card board with corrugations in between for added strength.
Coming from a background in packaging I thought I’d mention the discrepancy although I understand that the general nomenclature is card board. I must get this from my packaging professor.
Other than that it’s a fascinating “corrugated board” mechanics project and I hope to see more!

  2. Very cool stuff! I love the idea of using discarded cardboard, oops, I mean corrugated board, for virtually anything.

Last year I made a “ball chair” for my daughter that is a completely spherical chair made from flat stock. If you want to check it out:

With enough planning and the right tools you can probably make anything out of cardboard.
