From All of Us in Detroit, Thank You

Thank you so, so much to everyone who came to Maker Faire, set up at Maker Faire, crafted at Maker Faire, spread the word about Maker Faire… you get the idea. We had a wonderful turnout (around 22,000 people) and you can tell the creativity was flowing.

More than anything else, it was wonderful meeting so many new folks right in our own backyard. I couldn’t post every photo, so check out this Flickr set. Favorite overheard comment? “It’s time to go home, I am all crafted out.”

I would have loved to have come to the Maker Faire, but I have to say it was WAY to pricey for me. I understand the connection that inventors and creativity have with the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village, and their mission, but events there tend to be priced out of the range of a lot of families. I would like to see a more affordable option for ticket sales in the future.

We were wondering about attendance – how did it compare to expectations? Our family had a great time, although i wish I’d been able to spend more time in the crafting zone! (i was wandering around with my eldest son, who is more of a maker than a crafter…)
One thing that frustrated me about the event is that there wasn’t a good map or listing of what to find where. For example, the map said “more makers inside!” but there wasn’t a map showing *where* they were inside The Henry Ford. It was kind of hit-or-miss finding people. I’d make a list from the web of what sounded interesting, but then I didn’t know how to find them.
(and yeah, kind of pricey, but we have a [tax deductible!] membership to the HF so that part of the price was less of an issue for us)

Thanks for the feedback! Good to hear about the signs, I’ll make sure to pass that along.
Attendance definitely met and pleased our expectations!

    Hey Coffeemomma-
Yep, I understand. Not sure if you saw the reduced-price tickets that were available early summer, but I know several families that took advantage of those. Again, I’ll definitely let the team know.
