Dexter Industries, who build 3rd party sensors for Lego Mindstorms — including a GPS unit called the dGPS — built a NXT device that alerts a driver when he or she drives too fast. Download the NXT program file here. [via The NXTStep]

A number of years ago when I was a developer at a car navigation company I coded exactly this feature into one of our units. You could set a speed and it would simply warn you if you went over it. Unfortunately they wouldn’t let me include it in the actual product. I imagine it’s a common feature now although I haven’t used a car GPS for years?
