Incredible Raku-ware Howl’s Moving Castle

Craft & Design

Ceramics maker Liz created this ceramic rendition of Diana Wynne Jones’/Miyazaki’s famous moving castle and glazed it with the exciting Raku process. Don’t miss the video of the red-hot Howl’s Moving Castle, and congrats to Liz for winning first place in the Oregon State Fair Art Competition.

Not to be a complete snark about this, but it would be nice to see Diana Wynne Jones credited here (either instead of or along with Miyazaki). It’s her book that created the characters and the opportunity for the movie and people don’t usually reference her name. Especially since she just passed away in late March, I wish more people would trace this all the way back to its origins, not just the most famous of it’s incarnations.

I really didn’t mean for that to come off aggressive or anything, sorry if it did! She was one of my favorite (if not my absolute favorite) writers when I was growing up and her death made me hyper-aware of how many people love her work but have never heard her name before. Thanks for adding it, and for featuring such a great project!
