One- to six-hour long workshops on things like taste hacking, Arduino, wearable electronics, liquid nitrogen ice cream, sugar skull making, and more are programmed over a weekend.

The next one is this coming Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12-13, in Oakland. What is really cool is that a flat $40 admission gets you as many workshops as you can handle.  They have family discounts for kids and parents wanting to workshop together.
