You’ve heard of hackerspaces and makerspaces, and you’ve likely been to one or two. Many of you, however, find that your area is lacking in a facility to encourage making. The concept of beginning your own can be extremely daunting to the uninitiated. Luckily, there are people out there like Gui Cavalcanti and Molly Rubenstein of Artisan’s Asylum who have not only done extensive research, but also have tons of experience.

Gui and Molly will be teaching a single day workshop called How to Make a Makerspace from 9am to 5pm on Thursday, May 15th at the San Mateo County Event Center. Make has teamed up with Artisan’s Asylum to bring you the information you absolutely need to get off the ground and be successful. Some previous topics covered have been how to get insurance, and what business model to use, though that really only scratches the surface of what you can learn by picking Gui’s brain.

Be prepared to tell your story and make connections with other enthusiastic people hoping to make a new makerspace. To attend, you need to register for the event at eventbrite. Lunch will be served, questions will be answered, and makerspaces will be born!

Can you guy tape the event and make it available for streaming afterwards for those of us not in the area?

I get ridiculously excited seeing people make things. I just want to revel in the creativity I see in makers. My favorite thing in the world is sharing a maker's story. find me at CalebKraft.com
