Youtube may have started monetizing digital videos long ago, but now the folks at Red Paper Heart have come up with a prototype for a new way to monetize the digital moving image. Users are able to interact with their device by dropping a piece of cold, hard, cash into an adafruit coin acceptor, which is controlled by an Arduino Uno, activating the projection of a digital animation.
This ingenious combination of digital media and physical cash seems to suggest that coin acceptor activated microcontrollers could be a great way to monetize lots of other digital works and even fund new projects in the process, I guess the coin-operated digital media market will decide.
