Artist Jenine Shereos has a wonderful knack for making the materials she works with take on an almost uncanny resemblance to other materials from the natural world. She’s turned human hair into stunning leaf sculptures in the past, and more recently she’s made thread look surprisingly like spider webs in a site-specific installation called “De/constructed Lace,” which she made in Marnay-Sur-Seine, France
Inspired by the white lace curtains adorning the windows in many of the local village homes and the myriad of delicate spider webs inhabiting the rural landscape, this installation of knit-lace is suspended in a state of unraveling. The process of it’s making and unmaking are one and the same.
It turns out that unraveling lace makes for some charming home decor!
