With an IKEA “Lack” table (they’re only $10!) and some LED’s, and you can have the coolest centerpiece table around. This project is a music visualizer table, an idea that creator crt4041 based upon a tiny Arduino music visualizer project from Adafruit. When music is played near it, it lights up.
The project starts out with cutting out a square in the top of the table. Interestingly enough, these tables are filled with honeycomb cardboard (I have two of these tables at home, so seeing the inside is neat!). The honeycomb cardboard is cut out, and then you’ll make the template for the LED’s on the square that you cut out, and then insert them. The square grid for separation of the lights is made with white laminated hardboard, with the height and width being based upon the dimensions of hole in the table. The layout of the LEDs is based on a common cathode matrix. You’ll need soldering equipment and there will be about 20 feet of wiring. The top is covered with a piece of perspex the same size as the matrix square, and coated with frosted window film, although frosted perspex would be easier if you can find it.
