As parents, we strive to give our children a safe, happy, and healthy life. As makers, we strive to make the world more customized and generally more awesome.

The parents of one little boy bridged these worlds and made him a cake that even Optimus Prime would be proud of.

The lucky young man is the son of YouTuber Russell Munro who used a 3D printer to build the transforming base for this epic cake. All of the baked and frosted parts then help to cover up the motors and other mechanisms that allow this wonderful creation to transform. Here’s video of the transforming mechanism being assembled, pre-cake:

It looks like fondant was used as the frosting material. Fondant is an edible icing used to decorate or sculpt cakes and pastries. It is a sturdy substance that allows for easy cover of cakes and provides smooth crisp lines when decorating.
