Project Fisher was inspired from the video games of our childhood. These games influenced us with their HUDs, Goggles, and Sci-Fi Optics. Who doesn’t want to act like Sam Fisher for a night.
Traditional Night Vision is limited to the contrast of light within view of the optic. Thermal Vision senses long wave infrared (heat), augmenting the user’s vision with associated colors for various temperatures. When used together they can produce a well defined view. The Raspberry Pi, Camera, and Flir Lepton do an okay job, though there is a night and day difference compared to a commercial or military grade system.
We are running the GroupGets software. Ideally the range, color and negotiation of the NoIR Pi camera and the Flir Lepton would be custom programmed for the this application. Props to Pure Engineering, GroupGets, Adafruit, and Edmund Optics for making cool parts available to the masses.
This took a few long weekends to design and a couple of evenings to assemble.
