World Maker Faire New York is this weekend, and we’ve put together a full schedule for of awesome demos for both days at the CRAFT booth. Each day this week, we’ll profile one of the folks who will be presenting. Be sure to mark your schedule and head to the CRAFT booth for all the fun!
Presenter: Anna of Mochimochi Land
Project: Toy Knitting Tricks
Day/Time: Saturday at 2 PM
Tell us about what you’ll be demonstrating at the CRAFT booth at Maker Faire:
I’ll be showing my toy knitting tips and tricks. Many knitters are a little intimidated by knitting toys, but once you know some basics about using double-pointed needles and some seaming tricks, you can tackle fun and quick toys!
If you are also participating in the BUST Craftacular, tell us about what you’ll be showcasing there:
I won’t be in the Craftacular, but I’ll have a table at the Hall of Science library. I’ll have my book Knitting Mochimochi there, along with samples of all the huggable toys you can make from the patterns in it.
How did you get started with crafting?
I wasn’t really into crafting until I spent a year in Japan as a high school exchange student – my host sisters taught me how to knit a scarf. Then in college my boyfriend’s mom (now my mother-in-law) inspired me to do more knitting and all kinds of other crafts.
What are your main sources of inspiration?
I’m inspired by Japanese kawaii characters, wordplay, cliches, urban legends, and Dr. Seuss.
What new idea (in or outside of your field) has excited you most recently?
This isn’t really a new idea, but it seems that more people are doing stop-motion animation with various materials lately. I can’t wait to experiment with this myself!
What is your motto?
No one’s too old for a toy.
