You can get ridiculously high resolution, color satellite orthoimages from seamless.usgs.gov, and then overlay the tracks on the image with PerlMagick. My PerlMagick script to do this is here“. I use the same GPS Tony has, the Garmin Forunner- nice work! Link.

I have a Garmin 550 StreetPilot and I have a glitch. It seems that the screen locks up. I’ve called Garmin Tech Support and they said the glitch happens sometimes and they have a fix for it which they sent as an attachment to an email. The fix involves no power for the GPS system for at least 24 hours (the file they sent me said 24 but the technician said 48). My immediate problem is that I told them I had a StreetPilot 530 when I have a 550. They’re closed till Monday and I’m hoping someone can tell me if it would be safe to use the fix for the 530 which they sent or if there is a specific fix for the 550 which I must get before I try to fix it. Help!!
