There’s a new TechShop opening this fall:
We are proud to announce the opening of TechShop Austin-Round Rock, located in La Fontera in Round Rock, Texas!
TechShop Austin-Round Rock is located at 120 Sundance Parkway, Suite 350, Round Rock, Texas, in the Lowe’s and Sam’s Club shopping center. The building is 17,000 square feet and includes a large parking lot with close access to freeways and shopping centers.
TechShop is a community based workshop and prototyping studio on a mission to democratize access to the tools of innovation. This brand new location is packed with cutting-edge tools and equipment. Our computers are loaded with the latest design software featuring the Autodesk Design Suite. Most importantly, TechShop offers space to make, and the support and camaraderie of a community of makers.
There will be a pre-opening party this Friday and Saturday. You can register through the above link.

Be there or be square!
That’s awesome, but when will the one in Pittsburgh be up and running? I’ve got about 273 ideas for things to make!
If I won the lottery I would totally franchise one of these in my area.
Wow, start the clock. It’ll be out of business before I get there. LOL
I love seeing a TechShop in this type of location, where one would normally see a big box store! The future is looking bright!
Yikes. Given that Austin’s creative core is solidly central and south, seems like putting this location about 30+ minutes away (without traffic, more than an hour if you wanted to go after work) might not be ideal. I get that property is cheaper, but it is basically a deal-breaker for me.
That said, I am always happy to have another hackerspace.
This. I’m glad they finally got around to building a TechShop in Austin (there was supposedly one in the works for Austin 5 or 6 years ago, but that fell through IIRC). Too bad it is 30 or more miles 40-50 minutes each way (without traffic) from my house, or I would be on it.
