Today I had a chance to meet up with Raphael who makes open source MP3 player kits, I really liked the kit (bought one) and soon we’ll see what type of fun enclosures it will fit into. Here are some specifics about the kit… – “The “Sakura” MMC Mp3 Player – full kit: $72US – includes all parts and a pre-programmed and tested pic (no MMC card). The pic can be reprogrammed, and the code is not protected.” – link & kit.
Here are some pictures I took – Link.

Please encourage him to work on a kit that takes a 2.5″ drive and runs Rockbox.
The CF based version doesn’t work as advertised. Seller doesn’t return support emails. PIC died (gets verify errors) after 15 or so flashes…flashes that were performed in an effort to see why it wasn’t working. Save your money.
turbo2ltr – i forwarded your note to raphael – so far i’ve only heard great feedback from everyone who has these (including me)!
I was out of town for a wedding! I wasn’t checking email. I flew back an hour ago! Sorry about that, I’ll get right on it…
thanks,
