Blog from your PDA

Images-1-4 I need to dust off my Pocket PC and try this out (blog companies could sell refurb’ed PDAs just for blogging)- Pocket Blog extends your weblog to any Pocket PC device. Weblog entries are maintained offline. When Internet connectivity becomes available, such as when your Pocket PC is placed in it’s docking cradle or a WiFi card is inserted, changes are automatically posted to your weblog. Pocket Blog also downloads recent weblog entries, enabling you to edit entries that were originally posted from your desktop. [via] Link.

Where to Buy MAKE!

Here’s a list of stores, ordered by zip code, which carry MAKE as a newstand/magazine item through our distributor, Ingram Periodicals. Additional bookstores carry and shelve MAKE as a book…those stores may not appear on this list. We’ll try to update this list about once a month. You may want to call your store to verify that they have MAKE in stock. Link.

How to get DOS games to work in Windows XP

How to get DOS games to work in Windows XP

Images-28 Great for emulation projects- There is no DOS in Windows XP! What is called the “command prompt” is not really DOS … it can be thought of as more of a simulation of DOS. Windows XP (and Windows 2000), unlike Windows 95, 98, and ME, are NOT built on an MSDOS foundation. So, while this makes for better speed and stability, it also makes for sometimes lousy backwards compatibility. Link.

Play Videos on iPods with iPod Linux

Wiki
In Make 02 we covered getting Linux on your iPod to do things like play new games, image viewing, recording high quality audio- and now it looks like we’re getting video playback using a modd’ed Podzilla build. I just tried it out the new kernel, but I can’t seem to get the sample video to play- I’ll try more soon, let me know if you get it going Link to instructions. Update: Got it working on THREE IPODS! Here is our video.

Photo to Text with Cameras?

Photo to Text with Cameras?

Images-26 Interesting- this new camera from Samsung will come with photo to text software “You can shoot documents such as books, papers and magazines then extract text from the image taken using the “Digimax Reader” text recognition software included in the box”. Kinda handy if it works well, I suspect the software would work with any image from other cameras. Current OCR software might be able to do this now, but not optimized for digital cameras. Would be neat to have this in cell phone cameras to auto-populate text messages. [via] Link.

PC Monitor Mod

PC Monitor Mod

Done1 Dangerous, but cool looking- perhaps adding a bug zapper would be the killer finale…This article over on twisted mods shows you how to cut a hole in a monitor, add a window and glowing light. Windowing a monitor reduces the effectiveness of the ventilation system and therefore can reduce the life of your monitor due to overheating. If you do this mod, it is suggested that you add fans to either side, or to your window, as will be shown in Part II of this guide.Link.
