Kudos to Bre Pettis and the MakerBot team for doing such a great job on the Colbert Report last night. It was like a 5-minute infomercial for the MakerBot. Who would watch this and NOT want one? Also my friend, DC artist (and current MakerBot Artist-in-Residence) Jonathan Monaghan, helped with scanning Stephen’s head and made the eagle Stephen that’s shown. Way to go, Jonathan!
These ladies have got it: combine form and function in one 3D file, and print out an entire bathing suit! It’s made from flexible nylon12 cured with an SLS process. I love hearing ladies talk about circle-fill algorithms. If you do too, don’t miss the video with designers Jenna Fizel and Mary Haung. It’s probably […]
Bre Pettis, former MAKE video star and co-founder of MakerBot Industries, will be the Colbert Report tomorrow night, Wednesday, 6/8, at 11:30pm. Make it a deep geek night. Watch Make: Live and then see Bre on Colbert.
Nirav Patel printed working house keys on his RepRap. It occurred to me recently that I had printed almost nothing actually useful on my RepRap 3D printer, aside from parts to improve on or build more RepRaps. I am rectifying that with this project. The goal here is to generate working house keys by inputing […]
A few years back, before I worked for MAKE, I had some business cards laser cut and blogged about it. Every so often, somebody runs across them and e-mails asking for helping making their own. I always refer them to Angus Hines, who’s a good friend, a Maker Faire regular, and the best (and least expensive) CNC contractor I know. Recently, Angus was hired by Frank Anselmo Eco to laser-cut some business cards from glow-in-the-dark sheet plastic, which is a pretty cool idea, IMHO. But the reason it’s on MAKE is the sweet lights-out video Angus shot of the laser-cutting action; check out how the phosphorescent plastic continues to glow for several seconds behind each cut. [Thanks, Angus!]
There are two positions available at SVA in NYC: a systems administrator in the MFA Interaction Design and Visible Futures lab, and another for managing servers and the woodshop. It’s a unique opportunity to work with talented students in a high-tech lab managing physical computing equipment and digital making machines like laser cutters and 3D […]
