Projects With Ryan Slaugh: Robot Redo Part 2
Here it is, part 2 of the robot redo! In this video we finish the design and build the final robot. The video will show the highlights of the entire process.
Making a robot can be an incredibly rewarding experience. It’s the perfect combination of creativity, engineering and problem solving. However, if you’re just getting started in robotics, it can also be overwhelming. To make things easier for those who are just starting out, we’ve put together some tips and tricks to help makers bring robots to life! From the basics of assembling your robot to software implementation, these pointers will give you everything you need to get started on your robotic adventure!

This video by EV3 developer Laurens Valk shows you what you get in the box. The word on the street is that the Technic parts are mostly the same as previous sets, with the EV3 microcontroller brick showing the most changes.
Hackers are chomping at the bit to tinker around under the hood of the new Lego Mindstorms microcontroller brick, the EV3, which packs an ARM9-based processor running Linux.
On a dusty lot at Moffett Field, CA that’s been made to simulate a lunar landscape, NASA showed off what they hope will be the next step in our exploration of the solar system: telerobotics. That’s a fancy name for remote control, but it’s a lot fancier than most remote control vehicles.
Chimera Arts, a new makerspace in Sebastopol, Calif., hosted one of its first public events this Saturday, the 2013 Sonoma Ant Wars. Sonoma Ant Wars is a combat robot competition. Crowds gathered to watch fleaweights, antweights, and beetlebots bash, crash, grind, and chop each other in well-organized mayhem.
Dublin, Ireland’s second Mini Maker Faire is set for Saturday, July 27. Last year’s event drew 5,500 attendees and 35 maker exhibits. This year’s free event promises to be even bigger with more makers. In particular, there’s been a jump in the number of fabrication makers who will showing off everything from homemade CNC machines to 3D scanning booths.
Having built my own drink-making robot one–it’s hard!–I appreciate a sweet drinkbot. Windell and Lenore of Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories continue to refine DMU, swapping out pumps and trying new angles on drink recipes, while still keeping the sweet Erlenmeyer flasks that set the drinkbot apart. Drink-Making Unit 2.1‘s angle is to offer six flavor […]
