Thursday evening was a busy night for MAKE and makers everywhere. While everyone at MAKE HQ was preparing for our first International Maker Meetup, a group of us headed out to an exciting development for makers in our own backyard: the Analy Community Makerspace open house at Analy High School here in Sebastopol.
For a given variety of wood, The Wood Database has images of the wood grain in various stages of preparation (sanded, sealed, endgrain). It’s a great resource for anyone who works with wood.
Lex Rudd walked us through how she designs lifelike puppes, fabrication techniques, including early sculpture, pattern making, molding, casting, prototypes, raw materials, and finished products.

The Fab Academy Providence is accepting applications for their 2013 program. This is a six-month long digital fabrication program that’s directed by Neil Gershenfeld and is based on his MIT rapid prototyping course, How to Make (Almost) Anything. Deadline for applications is November 30, 2012.
In each bi-monthly episode of DiResta (every other Wednesday at 2pm PT), artist and master builder Jimmy DiResta (“Dirty Money,” “Hammered,” “Against the Grain,” “Trash for Cash”) lets us into his workshop, to look over his shoulder while he builds whatever strikes his fancy.
