The Joule packs power similar to a mid-range laptop computer into a 1″×2″ module. It supports burst speeds up to 2.4 GHz, has 4GB of RAM, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, on-chip graphics acceleration, and supports Intel’s new family of RealSense cameras with depth perception.
Makers will appreciate the larger development board the Joule comes atop, with 48 GPIO pins on standard female headers. The additional option to use a graphical interface also makes this feel more like a single board computer than Intel’s prior prototyping boards.
As Intel’s contender for fastest IoT core yet, the Joule is an impressive entry.
