Education Gardening Woodworking

A 3-day weekend is approaching and it’s a great opportunity to sit down, by yourself or with your kids, and work on a project. There are so many projects to choose from on makezine.com, but here is a quick collection of 10 fun projects that would be great for this weekend.

lilypad

The weather is getting warmer and it is time to start spending even more time outdoors. Pools are great for summer, but it still might be a little cold for a dip. To fix that, add a few lily pad pool warmers and you’ll be ready for any upcoming get-togethers. They’re handy to have floating around and add a nice look when the pool is not being used.

water cannon

Water ballon fights can be brought to a whole new level with this handy and easy-to-make PVC water ballon cannon. Prepare for the upcoming water war and show up everyone in the neighborhood with this fun project that won’t take a huge chuck of time out of your weekend to make.

zip line

Thought it might be harder to find the supplies for this project on short notice, who wouldn’t want a zip line right in their backyard? This great tutorial makes this huge project seem manageable with easy-to-follow steps. It can be made to work with different ages and can make hanging out in your backyard even more fun.

veggie garden

If you haven’t already, it is time to get your gardens going. Instead of doing the usual, why not try setting up a fun hydroponic vegetable garden this year? This option can end up saving you a lot of water and save you space if you don’t have a lot to spare.

silk screening

Decorating t-shirts is fun for all ages. There’s nothing like having a handmade, unique t-shirt to wear around on a warm summer day. Instead of just painting a shirt, why not learn the basics of silkscreening with this handy tutorial.

water crayons

Keep the kids busy with these fun ice cube crayons. They are super easy to make and only require water and food coloring. It’s a fun alternative to normal water colors and can be a great outdoor activity that won’t require a lot of clean up since the crayons will just melt away when you are all done.

tensegrity

The weather can be an unpredictable thing, and if you find yourself stuck indoors why not learn more about electronics with this fun Compressible Tensegrity Robot project that uses littleBits. It can be great for kids and adults and is a wonderful introduction to creating simple robots.

fruit rollups

You’re going to need to eat something over the weekend, so why not make a fun and healthy snack that’s great for on the go. These fresh fruit roll-ups are ideal because they are tasty, healthy, and super easy to whip up.

kid's furniture

This simple wooden furniture is great for the basic woodworkers out here. The pieces are really easy to cut out and the simple designs can be adapted for different uses.

mosaic table

While it might take a little longer than a weekend to complete, this mosaic table is fun and can really help you while away the hours if your weekend is completely free. The directions are pretty easy to follow, so even if you’ve never done mosaics before you should be able to grab the supplies and jump right in.

Hopefully you found something to get you started for your 3-day weekend, but if you still aren’t sure what to do, make sure you check out all of our weekend projects.
