Mayor Angel Taveras declares September 10 Makers’ Day in Providence, RI

The Creative Capital—this name sums up what fuels innovation and progress in Providence. From its educational institutions with strengths in engineering and design to its innovative culture of startups, the people of Providence have been hard at work making things for centuries. We’re grateful, excited, and humbled that Mayor Angel Taveras has honored the Rhode Island Mini Maker Faire and the Providence maker community with this proclamation.

The Makeys Have Landed

The Makeys Have Landed

We just got our first peek at the 2011 Makeys trophies, designed and printed by our pals at MakerBot Industries, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results. Thanks to Jonathan Monaghan for the design work, Matt Griffin for running the printers, Keith Ozar for coordinating it all, and everybody else at MakerBot who helped out. Naturally, the STL files are available on Thingiverse to remix at your leisure. As you can see, “Makey” is built Mr. Potato Head-style, but right now he’s a bit short on accessories…

Threadbanger is Back

There is exciting news in the handmade community brewing. One of your favorite DIY networks is back in action! Corinne and I are so pleased to have our own channels partner up with Threadbanger and three other fantastic DIY style mavens, Whitney Sews, Mr. Kate & Sammy Davis Vintage to re-launch a new Threadbanger.
