Breakout dock – iPod hello world
Steve writes in with his progress on making an iPod breakout box with some new BASIC stamp action – “Work on the iPod breakout dock continues, and I have achieved reletively painless interaction with a BS2 microcontroller. This simple starter circuit has a single push button, an LED to let me know I am actually pushing the button…This small step, along with the iPod code generator I released previously, opens the doors to more complex interaction. In my case, there will be another device attached downstream, but that will have to be explained at another time.” Link.

More repairing goodness, Radiorental writes in describing tips for scoring super cheap iPods – “There’s usually half a dozen 10GB or 15GB broken ipods on ebay at any point in time. Usually either the battery or HD is stuffed. Most go for under $35, new battery is ~$10, HDs are around $100 for a 40G. $140 total for a 40G 3rd gen Ipod thank you very muchness.” 
Handy open source app (Mac) – “I wanted to be able to listen to the songs on my iPod for some time now. This is because I don’t want to fill up the hard-drive of my iBook with music, but be able to access my Music when I’m on the way. I found some solutions but none really made me happy. Then I found mt-daapd which did exactly what I wanted except for one thing. mt-daapd can export any folder as an iTunes-music-share. The missing piece was, that it doesn’t detect if an iPod is connected. So I wrote a simple programm that detects if an iPod is connected and then automatically shares it with mt-daapd.” 
Handy tip if you want to see how TV shows on iTunes will look on your TV -before- you purchase them. Andrew writes “Unfortunatly, iTunes does not let you save the 30 second previews of music or video. While thats not really an issue with music, many people want to know how good the video looks when played on their TV or iPod. So how did I get the urls of the above videos. I used Debug iTunes Music Store.”

He’s put together a how-to with everything you’ll need to attempt building your own, or just get inspired. I have a feeling we’ll see an iPod accessory in stores like this very soon! 
Here’s a way to get Flickr photos on your iPod automatically – photocasting! – “I use flickr and when i got my iPod Video i felt that Photo Podcasting had been overlooked. After some googling and hunting on del.icio.us i couldn’t find any easy way to do this with iTunes, iPhoto or some flickr hacks. I gave it a rest until i discovered that Kalli, a fellow iPod owner and flickr nerd, was interested in getting photo podcasting going. We created a workflow in Automator that, combined with iCal, becomes a photo podcasting client.” Thanks Addi!
