Nick Leindecker of the Stanford Optical Society shows Laser Craze, a laser cutter that is controlled by two knobs much in the way an etch a sketch works. At Maker Faire Bay Area 2011 he allowed attendees to try out his invention on various burnable surfaces, while also showing his LED creations.

Hunter McCurry brought the Pullcordion to Maker Faire Bay Area 2011. This handmade mechanical musical instrument is played by pulling on strings that are attached to pieces of dryer ventilation tubing with harmonica reeds mounted on them.

An off-road machine from Boston, the tread skateboard was tearing it up around World Maker Faire today. Part snowblower, part battery, this deck can hit 20 mph. It was designed, built, and ridden by Charles Guan, a member of The Miters from MIT.

Qiaodan (Jordan) shows off her rainbow shutter-shades at the World Maker Faire in New York. An electrical engineer with a eye for fashion, Qiaodan has created a truly one of a kind piece.
Featuring 2 soloists, a conductor, and 6 different choral groups, Richard Carter and John Schroeter’s Sashimi Tabernacle Choir’s singing, dancing, fish and lobsters preform everything from Opera to Pop to Punk Rock at World Maker Faire.
The car has over 300 pounds of batteries, a computer, 31 custom circuit boards, and 5 miles of control system wire.

Meet Ryan Doyle, the co-creator of Gon KiRin, a 69′ fire-breathing dragon. Ryan learned to create in many mediums while working in his grandmother’s doll hospital, and took his recycled art-car-dragon to Detroit to finish it amid the artifacts of American auto manufacturing.
