Handcraft Art Exhibit in NY – The Workmanship of Risk

Workmanship

If you are in NY you must check out “The Workmanship of Risk” exhibit at the St. Lawrence University.
Curated by KnitKnit founder Sabrina Gschwandtner the exhibit looks at handcrafts for conceptual rather than utilitarian purposes. From the site, “Juxtaposing knitting with mechanically reproduced media, needlepoint with politics, and sewing with social critique…” Pictured above left is Lisa Anne Auerbach’s “Freedom is Messy/Shoot to Kill” knitted sash, 2005 and right is Jim Finn’s “Communist Heroes of South America” needlepoint pillows, 2004-2005.
