It’s the festive season and time to do something just a little different with the Tesla coil I had laying around…A 15 foot green “tree” with a golden star on top all done in sparks.

Xmas Tesla – Link.

I love that our makers out there have “tesla coils” laying around, neat.

Had to go to the link to understand the production needed to generate such a picture.

Nice use of long exposure shots…and I love the this guy’s Tesla work.
Just a quick question – couldn’t you paint the discharge terminals with metal salts that burn different colors (eg: sodium for a yellow star, copper green leaves, strontium for the red base) rather than use the colored filters?

    This is my tree.
Coloured sparks don’t work well using salts. Sodium is easy for a few inches but best with a near continuous wave setup like solid state or valve.

BTW the header for this site uses my tesla sparks pic with my face edited out. It’s OK to use it but asking would have been polite.
