Now this is a great art project… “GWEI – Google Will Eat Itself”
We generate money by serving Google text advertisments on a network of hidden Websites. With this money we automatically buy Google shares. We buy Google via their own advertisment! Google eats itself – but in the end “we” own it!
By establishing this autocannibalistic model we deconstruct the new global advertisment mechanisms by rendering them into a surreal click-based economic model.
After this process we hand over the common ownership of “our” Google Shares to the GTTP Ltd. [Google To The People Public Company] which distributes them back to the users (clickers) / public.

I read through the site and they use php scripts to simulate ad-clicks. They are using robots to cheat Google of advertising money.
Justin, you are correct they are running click fraud to rip off the advertisers, and it seems like every time google catches up with the scammers, they just create a new account under a new name.
Is this real ? Because it’s obviously in violation of Google’s TOS, and probably illegal, too. Art vs. illegal scam, oh such a thin border :) …
Iam a bit surprised by how this Make Blog slowly becomes a Art blog. Almost every second post is about some conceptual art, mainly useless crap from people starving for attention. Environmental health clinic, GWEI, transparent speaker cube (nonfunctional lol)… I would rather enjoy less posts but more Make related stuff then all this art crap.
Sesx, You are right on the button. Look back through the archives and you’ll see how this blog has transitioned from a hobbyist/maker blog slowly towards an leftist/anarchist/art/whatever you wanna call it blog. Inserting agenda instead of demonstrating general handyness (if that’s a word).
@Mcheese & sesx – from day one we’ve covered art, artists are makers – we try and be inclusive here, not exclusive. please welcome others with different ideas and projects.
that being said, “art” is a tiny percent of the posts, less than 0.1% – surely it’s tolerable, more so since this particular project was sent in by 4-5 makers – other projects they’ve sent in include dozens and dozens of arduino projects… we get complaints about those too…
worst case, you can subscribe to categories like “electronics” or “diy projects” and never see anything interesting or inspiring or awful in the art category too.

Mcheese & sesx – Art projects are a necessary thing, not just for it’s artistic value, but because these “useless crap” can serve to inspire people with new ideas and construction methods useful for development of practical projects. Who knows? You might be inspired to build something in a novel configuration because you saw 6 speakers tie-wrapped together in a cube.
If you do see a practical project in another site that you think is appropriate for Make: blog, you can always suggest the site. Maybe you can affect the art-to-practical project ratio ;-)
The anarchy projects are interesting but I find it a little disturbing only because it promotes bad behavior that could get Make: in trouble. My worry is for Make:, I don’t want it to get in legal trouble as I like the mag and blog site a lot and I don’t want to see them go away. Maybe a disclaimer band-aid is in order.

as far as legal trouble for MAKE writing about projects, that will likely never happen… we report what goes on, that’s not illegal, yet.
Hey, wait a minnit…. isn’t this how Wall street makes money out of thin air?, what’s it called? “Naked Shorting”?
I’m an old-school vaccuum tube guy. Aurduino is as puzzling to me as this Google “phreak”, but I think I’d get more use from the arduino, once I learn how to use it.
