Crewel Embroidery Chair Upholstery

I love handmade pieces with a good story behind them, and this crewel embroidery chair upholstery that Amanda from Spruce shared on Design Sponge has some serious history woven into every stitch.

This piece started life as a crewel embroidery project that Amanda’s mother worked on while her father was in the hospital in 1973. Years later, it has been reinvented as a gorgeous piece of usable art that will spread beauty and color for years to come.

I’ve been eyeing this piece for years, contemplating a connection between my craft and my mother’s. Meanwhile, I’ve been collecting other crewel art to upholster a set of chairs at my dining room table. When the set is complete, I imagine dinner parties with my guests and the ladies who created these art pieces in spirit.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t think of a more lovely way to preserve both the memories and hard work!
