OpenShot Presentation at the Dallas Makerspace

Following up on the very successful Kickstarter campaign for the OpenShot video editor, OpenShot mastermind Jonathan Thomas will be making a presentation about OpenShot at the Dallas Makerspace this Saturday, Aug. 3. Originally designed for Linux, OpenShot is a free and feature rich video editor that will be coming to Mac and Windows, too, in January, 2014.  An overview article about OpenShot appears on the PCWorld web site.

If you’re tired of the shenanigans Apple has done with iMovie and Final Cut, come home to open source.  Ain’t no shenanigans in open source. Nobody is going to change the software features and call the program by the same name.  To my mind, OpenShot is the quality, free video editing program the world has been waiting for.  If this software existed back in 2007, I would have used it to create this multitrack YouTube video.  With OpenShot, creating this kind of video is very easy.

OpenShot is going to be bringing all sorts of new voices to the table: from small nonprofits to individuals in far-flung places on the planet, they’ll all be able to use this no-cost quality video editor. In Malawi, members of the community where William Kamkwamba grew up will be able to share their stories with the world using OpenShot, powered by the electricity from the windmills that William Kamkwamba built.  You see, the answer my friend is blowing in the open source. The answer is blowing in the open source.
