I'm a word nerd who loves to geek out on how emerging technology affects the lexicon. I was an editor on the first 40 volumes of MAKE, and I love shining light on the incredible makers in our community. In particular, covering art is my passion — after all, art is the first thing most of us ever made. When not fawning over perfect word choices, I can be found on the nearest mountain, looking for untouched powder fields and ideal alpine lakes.

UK-based maker Dave Hax previously taught us how to make five clever emergency candles. Now Dave is sharing his template and instructions on how to make this playful toy truck using 12 cans, 11 plastic bottle tops, 4 kabob skewers, super glue, a knife, and scissors. The end result looks great and would make a fun repurposed gift. You can even add LEDs to give it nighttime appeal.
The template plans are available on his project page. For more repurposed holiday gift ideas, check out Dave’s video for making three different Christmas trees.
