Just because you’re dead and your flesh has all rotted away, doesn’t mean that you can’t still look good with the right display techniques. Artist Ryan Matthew Cohn has resurrected the 18th century art of displaying “exploded” human skulls pioneered by French anatomist Claude Beauchene. Drawing on his experience making custom jewelry, Cohn painstakingly constructs metal structures to display his exploded and dissected skulls in various forms of disassembly.

You can take a gander at one of Cohn’s wonderfully deconstructed oddities in an exhibition currently on display at The Museum of Arts and Design called NYC Makers.
