We’re bringing you a new video series to teach you how to control your home with the touch of a button with our Weekend Projects: Home Automation with Raspberry Pi and OpenHab. Throughout this series, we will show you how to build smart home devices and use OpenHab to build a complete home automation system.

In this first video, sponsored by Arrow Electronics, we show you how to build a RaspberryPi Touchscreen command center for interfacing with devices and task setting using the OpenHab software. The tutorial covers everything you’ll need to know to connect your board and set up the software. And what’s a command center without something to command? We also show you how to make a wirelessly controlled RGB LED strip so you can easily adjust the mood lighting in your home.

OpenHab is a versatile open source software perfect for integrating all of the IoT devices in your smart home. We only just scratch the surface of the software in this episode. It runs on Linux, OS X, and Windows, and has apps for both android and iOS smartphones. It can interface with over 150 existing smart home products, but our focus will be on showing you how to make your own.

Expect to see more from our Weekend Projects: Home Automation with Raspberry Pi and OpenHab series in the future.
