Joey Hudy: My Trip to Washington, D.C.

Editor’s note: Sixteen-year-old Joey Hudy was one of a handful of guests invited to sit with First Lady Michelle Obama at last night’s State of the Union address. The following is Joey’s take on his experience.

Tonight was amazing night. I hope I get the chance to do it again. I did’t really know what to expect, but it definitely exceed my expectations.

I got to have a tour of the White House, and visit the exact room and space where I shot my marshmallow cannon two years ago. That was really cool.

I actually ate dinner in that room. We got to have a picture with the first lady. I gave her a “don’t be bored MAKE something” bracelet…and asked her to do a selfie with me. She said YES. But there was a little problem. I didn’t get a very good picture. My hand was shaking so much from the excitement.

After that we got in vans and made the trip the the SOTU. President Obama is a really good speaker. I really enjoyed it. I got to meet him again after his speech. Cool thing is, he remembered me and called me by name. We chatted a little. I also talked a bit more to the First Lady. What a night!
