    Another source for cold-cathode lights is old flatbed scanners. I often see them on FreeCycle, and now that USB is so popular, SCSI and parallel-port scanners are no longer in demand. A typical flat-bed scanner contains a cold-cathode lamp (with power supply), a stepper motor (with gears and belt), an optical system and a controller board.

    Anyone got any other ideas to use those parts?
