I visited the Barber Motorcycle Museum this summer — an amazingly broad collection.
The oldest bike there had a metal frame, but still used wooden rims on the wheels! The drive belt from the engine to the rear wheel was a long strip of leather, sewn in to a loop.
Sweet!! I have always loved the look of the 1907 Harley-Davidson.
