speaker from an old telephone handset?
ummm… prototype nabaztag?
It’s fairly clear from the picture that there is a clock spring in the middle. The string would have been wound around the outside of the clock spring in such a way as to wind up the clock spring when pulled. What this stored energy would be used for can be determined by further disassembly. If there is a ratchet and escapement this might easily be a timer, perhaps an egg timer or for some game.
vibrator.
At first glanse it looked like an old speaker, but i have never seen one with a screw in the middle. there also seems to be some sort of jack (perhaps adio)
Ancient moving-coil meter?
Looks like my old blender with busted blades
a weighted base for an old table lamp.
It’s a mechanical spring-loaded pull switch for a lamp. Mount this onto a armrest (with a hole in the bottom) and have the string run to the lamp. Remember those lamps with a pull-string to turn on/off? Same thing except the lamp string runs through the “furniture” and the spring-loaded string is retracted into the dog. (hrmm… that doesn’t sound right :-P )

LOOK FOR MAGNETS. If parts of the guts are steel magnets, then the device is a loudspeaker (or perhaps an AC buzzer.)
