Fuzzy Judd

Craft & Design Yarncraft

Maybe it’s just the art geek in me, but I was so happy to discover Tiffany Matula‘s Fuzzy Judd sculpture (in a previous life, I spent part of my work day polishing Donald Judd‘s precisely made metal sculptures at the Dia Art Foundation). A riff on Judd’s untitled stack sculptures from the 60s and onward, Fuzzy Judd is a hilarious — but respectful — take on the cold, industrial feel of Judd’s work, which is most decidedly not fuzzy. There’s a fun technology angle as well: as described on Matula’s site, viewers are invited to sit in the chair to look at the work, activating a motor which unravels the knitting in the sculpture.
