Emergency Party Button

Holy Wow!

Basically, it is exactly what it sounds like; a button that instantly launches a party. When pressed, the blinds to my apartment close, the kitchen, hallway, dining room, and living room lights dim, the stereo starts blasting Haddaway – What Is Love, black lights turn on, laser lights start moving to the music, a strobe light goes on, and the fog machine starts up.

With another press of the button, the party is gone as easily as it started.
It may not be the most hi-tech thing in the world, but people sure as hell love it when they come over.

That big-red-button must be the ultimate coffee table conversation starter – spider-man & friends only wish they had it this good!

  1. No offense to this dude, but the student at MIT or wherever that did this a few years ago did a MUCH better job.

So much better in fact, it pretty much explains why this guy is all alone in his house listening to haddaway. sorry guy.

  2. This is really cool. You did a great job! Thanks for sharing.

So… what do people say when they see the button just sitting there on your coffee table?

  3. Fun idea but, to me, it misses a lot of light effects. It’s way too dark for party !

I would prefer a faster transition too.

    But it’s a good job for a start :)

  4. I love the spirit of this project. I agree the guy in the MIT dorm did some things better, but there are the same sort of elements in both. I think both projects could have benefitted from the use of better dimmers. The X-10 dimmers are known to be rather flakey, especially as the size of the system increases. Personally, I would have used a DMX dimmer.

I’m working on putting together a similar system, but mine has less to do with “party mode” and more to do with optimizing a space for the people that use in terms of light, temperature, devices, and so on (but because all the technology will be there, all I need to do is program party mode). Does anyone have any advice for me?

    -Nick
