I get how this solves the scratchy problem on the one end, but how does it solve the scratchy problem on the second end?

Hope it’s okay to offer a bit more here, to answer Amy’s question!
Since the end of the wire that ends the second wrap is doubled, it’s smooth; nothing on that end but a tight loop, so nothing to scratch you, even if it isn’t tucked in anywhere.
