DIY Yarn Sack Organizer

I love this clever (nay, brilliant!) DIY yarn organizer, or yarn sack, made with an eyelet for the yarn hole. With a young child and dog in the house, this could save my bacon. I have a plastic one someone gave me years ago, but this makes so much more sense for travel, and is cute to boot!

  1. Alyson – I’m the person who made these bags & I have to admit that is something I never thought of. I’m not sure how often it would come up, but you are correct you can’t take the ball out while mid-project.

    1. Well, it seems like you could technically take the ball out of the bag; it would just still be threaded through the eyelet of the bag. It doesn’t seem like it would be a problem, though. This would be great if you’re a knitter with kittens!

  2. I think this is a great idea. Doesn’t it need to be lined with plastic or something slippery though? I work with fuzzy yarns and they would just cling to the fabric and refuse to roll… wouldn’t they?

  3. Liz G, you could always use a quart-size freezer zip bag as a liner and thread the yarn out of a hole in it before threading it out the hole in the cloth bag. I use freezer bags all the time to protect my yarn (mostly from me and my drink!).

    1. Yes, good call. I’m thinking of maybe doing it at the sewing-the-bag stage; I might use a piece of shower curtain or other thin vinyl as a sewn-in liner.
