Coral Reef Sculptures From Common Household Items

Lynn-Aldrich-1

Artist Lynn Aldrich recreates the rich diversity of underwater environments in this whimsical series of reef sculptures made from common household items.

This new piece is titled RENEW YOUR REEF, and I again went shopping for cleaning supplies — brushes, sponges, scrubbers, scouring pads, mop heads, plungers, and plastic gloves. It’s not unlike a marine biologist looking for specimens in an attempt to understand biological diversity.

By using brightly colored, commercially manufactured products to poetically recreate scenes from nature, Aldrich endeavors to make the viewer question their own environments and their relationship to it.
