Craft & Design

I went to the Cooper-Hewitt National Design museum to check out their Design Trienniel, which features Make Magazine. There were a ton of great craft-related entries, including the Ladd brothers and their amazing beaded handbags and boxes and Judy Geib, whose crocheted jewelry stands and shell bags are just stunning. The exhibit is up until July, so you have plenty of time to see it!
Up the road a little, I checked out a wonderful exhibit at the Jewish Museum. Set to celebrate Hannukah, the Festival of Lights, the museum is showing a series of installations all having to do with light. There are a few pieces really worth looking at: Kirsten Hassenfeld’s exquisite paper structure plays with light and shadow, and Alyson Shotz’s beaded cloud is incredible (both are pictured above). It’s only up until February 4th, so be sure to check it out before it’s gone!
More photos from both shows are here.
