If you’re an avid Batman fan, you’re going to flip for the hottest members of the Bat Gang as miniature crocheted figurines. Yes, you read that right. Louie’s Loops recently introduced a new dynamic to its hat-based crochet business: figurines, all made from yarn, by hand.
Louise’s Loops is primarily a hat-making company run by 22 year old Louis Mensinger, who happens to be an incredible master of crochet. Although people went to him for hats, the avid comic book fan put his skills to the test, and the results are pretty impressive.
Louie’s crocheted comic characters encompass the entire Batman cast, including Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Bat Girl, The Joker, Harley, The Riddler, Bane, Poison Ivy, The Penguin, Catwoman, Two-Face, Man Bat, Deathstroke, and different versions of Batman, such as his nifty red fit from Batman Beyond.
The figures are incredibly spot-on, even for yarn, as they are easily distinguishable even without their labels. Louie’s innovation doesn’t stop there, however. He has yarn-made casts from other comic and cartoon favorites, too.
Louie disclosed that his favorite comic cast is the Avengers. In the spirit of the new film Age of Ultron, Louie made crochet version of the Avengers, including Thor’s Mjölnir, or hammer.
The crocheted characters are just as adorable as the Bat Gang, and Louie even added other cartoon characters to his list, including Gandolf the Grey from Lord of the Rings, Arya Stark from Game of Thrones and a plethora of Dr. Who and Pokemon characters.
Louie began crocheting in high school. While he began making hats for himself and his friends for free, he began getting monetary offers for specialty orders and decided to take his craft to Etsy after graduation. Today, Louie is completing his undergraduate degree in California and offers tutorials on crocheting.
Louie said he uses crocheting as a medium for artistic creation and hopes his blog will help revive the dying art form. If you’re interested buying Louie’s figurines, you can purchase them on Etsy or through his website, Louie Loops. Items range from $5 to $18. If you’re interested in learning to crochet, Louie offers advice and tutorials on his blog.
