Crochet Art – Friends for Life

Steven Leyden Cochrane shares with us some of the cool crochet sculptures he’s been working on. Steven says, “These are some sculptures that I’ve been making, recently (part of a series called “Friends for Life”). I started by crocheting stuffed birds with cotton yarn, to which I applied a couple dozen layers of chalk ground (powdered marble mixed with hide glue) and then sanded. When that was done, I used egg tempera (raw pigment mixed with egg yolk) to repaint the birds’ faces onto the now-white forms. Anyway, if that didn’t make much sense, there’s also a flickr set detailing the process . Some of the other work on my site might be of interest, also, as I use craft media pretty often.Link.
