Steven Leyden Cochrane shares with us some of the cool crochet sculptures he’s been working on. Steven says, “These are some sculptures that I’ve been making, recently (part of a series called “Friends for Life”). I started by crocheting stuffed birds with cotton yarn, to which I applied a couple dozen layers of chalk ground (powdered marble mixed with hide glue) and then sanded. When that was done, I used egg tempera (raw pigment mixed with egg yolk) to repaint the birds’ faces onto the now-white forms. Anyway, if that didn’t make much sense, there’s also a flickr set detailing the process . Some of the other work on my site might be of interest, also, as I use craft media pretty often.” Link.
